Danielle Schroeder’s latest single “I’m Ready” glides in with learned wisdom, released this May 26 as the second single from her upcoming album Later is Here. This track is a midlife reckoning, quiet, clear-eyed, and humane. It opens with shimmery guitar strumming and the relaxed pulse of grounded percussion, but it’s Danielle’s rich, textured, and emotionally transparent vocals that hold you in place like an old friend finally saying what’s been sitting on her chest for years.
Recorded at Monarch Studios in Vancouver with producer Aaron Klassen and a talented lineup including Jeremiah Schneider and Paolo Pietropaolo, the track gets you effortlessly. The piano winds gently through the arrangement, with the intimate, almost river-like flow that contrasts the lyrical weight. There’s a calm in the sound that belies the turbulence of the message: that letting go, no matter how ready we say we are, is never easy. “You’re wearing me down… down… down,” Danielle sings, and the repetition feels like a chant of release, a surrender to a truth long denied.
The lyrics strike a universal chord of old hurts, emotional exhaustion, and the raw push-pull of trying to detach from what no longer serves us. “Later is here,” she declares, realizing that the future she postponed for healing is now knocking on the door. The accompanying music video mirrors the song’s aesthetic with poetic, vintage-toned visuals of Danielle singing and playing guitar, arresting in their simplicity.
