The new track from the Louisville rapper, which went popular on TikTok just days before its release, is now available for purchase.
Since the song “WHAT’S POPPIN” went viral during the height of the pandemic over two years ago, Jack Harlow has been everywhere, from the Grammys to SNL to the Kids’ Choice Awards. Harlow’s strength is his ability to appeal to a wide range of demographics: he has huge popularity and never seems to lose.
Another of Harlow’s assets is that he’s a natural goofball who is both in on and above the joke, always with a knowing wink. He understands what he’s doing, and he uses the Gen-Z algorithm to great effect in his current single, “First Class.”
“First Class,” which features a sample of Fergie’s ageless “Glamorous,” sees Harlow further exploring in the gap between geeky and likeable – possibly the key to his success. Even as he delivers objectively terrible lines about pineapple juice and Euphoria actor Angus Cloud, you can’t help but cheer for him; it helps that he’s backed by a creative sample twist with just the perfect bit of funny nostalgia. Few rappers could successfully mix a sample into a song with words like “I been a (G), throw up the (L), sex in the (A-M)” without sounding corny. But, then then, there isn’t much Jack Harlow can’t get away with.
