From Utrecht, Netherlands, Fons & the Chargers arrive with a single, out since 06th February 2026, “In Our Yard Stands An Apple Tree” is an original track rooted in personal loss, written by Fons after he and his wife lost their unborn child nearly two years ago. The child, he shares, was the size of an apple seed. In the wake of that heartbreak, they planted an apple tree—an act of love, remembrance, and defiance against despair. This song grew from the same soil.
The recording came together in Hengelo, at his mother-in-law’s house, during what should have been a blissful Christmas dinner. And yet, grief has a way of slipping into even the warmest rooms. When everyone went to bed, the absence felt louder than the laughter had. So he did what artists do best. He turned pain into melody.
The track opens with writhing violins and glistening soft piano, immediately setting a tender, sacred atmosphere. An acoustic guitar cradles the arrangement while subtle, slow-paced beats pulse underneath like a steady heartbeat. Fons’ voice enters gently, crooned and intimate, as if he’s afraid to disturb the silence. But as the song moves forward, especially in the bridge, his vocals swell with urgency. When he sings about how the apple tree helps them heal, you can feel the tremor of something transformative, as grief reshaped into acceptance.
It’s heavy subject matter, no doubt, but it reminds us that love is the greatest thing we do, and that loss, painful as it is, is proof that love was there in the first place. Listen to “In Our Yard Stands An Apple Tree” on Spotify.
