In the Right Light by Nice Verdes: Album Review
Nice Verdes are a jaw-dropping musical act that excels at performing their craft. The musicians have an interesting sound pertaining to Latin folk, with elements such as salsa, bossa nova, gypsy jazz, and cumbia. Their album “In the Right Light” has 12 awe-inspiring tracks guaranteed to make you smile, as evident from the fresh Latin-infused melodies.
The record has a lovely mixture of guitars, basslines, and bongos which thrill you from the very get-go. Its tone and instrumental flow have a positive vibe that blends excellently when vocals come into the picture. Also, a bit of accordion is involved in some tracks and adds a gypsy-jazz aroma to their melodies. This is more evident in “Bright Sparks” which has a wonderful tune going. As the accordion maintains the song’s cadence, guitar chords, and high-spirited singers keep us hooked. Other tracks such as “Sweet Mama” really bring that essence of salsa and cumbia to the forefront. The latter is a subgenre of Latin dance quite popular in South America, and I believe is channeled rather subtly in this piece. A groovy guitar and bongo presence ignites the song, while artists chant their hearts out.
The entire album thus far has been a love letter for the world music genre, especially those that hail from our brethren in the south. This sentiment brings us to “Riverstone”, a brilliant Latin folk tune with a clean accordion hymn and flamenco guitar chords.
