The new track hails from the band’s forthcoming new album GODMODE, their eighth, which the band just announced will arrive later this year on Oct. 27. The “Kiss of Death” tour, which kicks off on Nov. 3, will also feature special guests Avatar and New Years Day.
“We are thrilled to unveil ‘THE PURGE’ to everyone,” says vocalist Maria Brink. “I am so grateful for how everything flowed to bring this song to life, both sonically and visually. Kane Churko and Jensen Noen helped to create this musical & cinematic experience with us and we could not have done it without them. The underlying message of the song is to not fall too deeply into the rabbit hole, everything is about finding balance. I had a lot of emotions building within me when I approached the song for the first time and after years of holding it all in I finally got to let it out! Enjoy.”
“This song came from our time in lockdown. We all had our own personal experiences during the pandemic and we all saw the social unrest unfolding daily tearing us apart, it was such a crazy time,” says guitarist Chris Howorth. “Our band, like everything else, was stopped in its tracks. During the lockdown I was sending Maria musical ideas I was working on, and this one really resonated with her. She even said ‘This is gonna be our first single’. Fast forward a couple years and all the pent up frustration and angst came pouring out in Maria’s lyrics and performance, creating this crazy visceral song.” Along with new single comes the details of GODMODE, including the album art and track listing, as well as the Kiss of Death Tour with Ice Nine Kills and New Years Day. Head below for all the details.
Jensen Noen, who has directed music videos for bands like Ice Nine Kills and Falling In Reverse, has just released a video for the new single “THE PURGE” by In This Moment. The band will be joined on tour by Ice Nine Kills as co-headliners. The new song is taken from the band’s eighth studio album, GODMODE, which is due out later this year on October 27. The “Kiss of Death” tour, which starts on November 3, will also feature Avatar and New Years Day as special guests.
The band is “thrilled” to release “THE PURGE,” as lead singer Maria Brink puts it. I’m so appreciative of how easily the musical and visual elements came together to realise this song. We couldn’t have made this musical and cinematic experience without the help of Kane Churko and Jensen Noen. The song’s underlying message is that life is a delicate balancing act, and that one must take care not to fall too far down the rabbit hole. After years of suppressing my feelings, I was able to let them all flow freely as I approached the song for the first time. Enjoy.”
This tune was written during our confinement. It was such a crazy time, with everyone’s own unique experiences during the pandemic and daily observations of the social unrest that was tearing us apart, as guitarist Chris Howorth puts it. Just like everything else, our band had to come to a halt. During the lockdown, I had been sending Maria samples of music I was composing; this particular sample struck a chord with her. This, she proclaimed, would be the group’s debut single. After repressing her emotions for a while, Maria finally let it all out in the form of lyrics and a performance that resulted in this insanely emotive song. GODMODE’s cover art and track listing have been revealed alongside the release of the new single; the band will also be touring with Ice Nine Kills and New Year’s Day as part of the Kiss of Death Tour.
