Do you like Brit Rock, New Wave, Dream Pop, and Shoegaze? Then we give you SWiiMS’ and their debut LP, “Into The Blue Night.”
The opening track, “In Puzzles,” sets the tone with a melodic and atmospheric haze that is abruptly broken by pounding drums. The ethereal, high, and gossamer-soft vocals deliver soothing tunes, creating an otherworldly experience. The lyrics, poetic and introspective, invite listeners to fall into a state of never looking back, capturing a changing sea storm.
“Staring at the Sun,” the third track, introduces a more upbeat and catchy rhythm, complemented by delicate vocals. Underneath the music, it compares commitment to staring into the sun and fading into its warmth.
Closing the album, “Diving In” features melodic, shimmering guitars layered over rhythmic drumming that grounds the track. The lyrics depict a visceral experience, drawing the listener into a vortex of emotions. The repetition of the phrase “diving in” serves as a thematic anchor, symbolizing the surrender to the unpredictable currents of life and love.
SWiiMS, comprised of guitarist Colin Thompson, singer/guitarist Mai Diaz Langou, and bassist Cian O’Ruanaidh, showcases influences from Pixies, Slowdive, and Beach House. The dreamy landscapes they craft, coupled with Mai Diaz Langou’s delicate vocals, create an immersive sonic experience.
Altogether, “Into The Blue Night” shows us the beginning stages of relationships, along with their uncertainty. The skilled interplay of instruments makes it a compelling addition to the band’s discography and a promising start to their musical journey.
