K-Prodigy, helmed by Tredarius Mcpherson, has cooked up a spooky treat for the upcoming Halloween season with their new single, “Fright Night.” Released ahead this Aug 17, it actually goes way back to last October. But it’s all the more exciting now with its ingenious and creative production redone by the artist himself. This track is a sonic rollercoaster that’ll have you shivering and grinning for making mischief all at once.
From the opening piano notes, also keyed by the artist, you’re transported to a dimly lit, cobweb-filled room. Then, whispers creep in breathily, saying, “Got no lights/They might bite” with a menacing edge, adding to the suspense over the ticking beats that make you feel as though time is running out. A child’s angelic and innocent voice joins, while syncing with the rhythmic melody of the piano, creating a chilling contrast like a prey lamb brought as a sacrifice to the Devil’s lair.
Once the main vocals kick in, Kevin Proctor or Denolay’s thick and edgy voice delivers a striking performance over catchy, hard beats. Then he starts to rap relentlessly, completely calm but cautionary even as the beat pumps with a sinister energy. Various electronic textures are incorporated to increase the creepiness but also make it more dynamic so that the listener is always on the edge of their seat.
It’s clear that K-Prodigy has been inspired by some spooky classics, from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” If you’re looking for a fun and spooky tune to get you in the mood for Halloween, “Fright Night” is a must-listen.
