Kofi releases “On Me” and talks about his upcoming album.
Kofi, a Toronto-based artist, has just released his new single “On Me.” With the track, he teases his next album Why Not?, which will be released on Red Bull Records on May 20.
“On Me,” written and produced by Kofi, is propelled by an Afro-inspired beat. It’s the follow-up to last month’s hit single “Haunt Me,” which featured 2KBABY.
“‘On Me’ is one of my favorite tracks on the album; it’s the most ‘Kofi’ song.” “I’m understanding that I can really only blame myself for what went wrong with former relationships,” Kofi says of the single, which is a continuation of the theme of “Haunt Me.”
With the release of Why Not? just in time for summer, Kofi is following in his father’s footsteps by releasing music to accompany the warm weather. Kofi’s summer tune “Babygirl” from 2020 established a pattern of joyful genre-bending tracks.
Around the time of the release of “Babygirl,” he told Complex Canada, “It’s still not apparent if I want to do hip-hop, R&B, or dancehall, but the environment that I was in at the time when I started recording songs, it was all just rap.”
“Growing up in a hip-hop family, I was always working with hip-hop artists.” It’s not just the music genre; it’s also the way of life.”
