Lakeyah and Latto Collaborate on “Mind Yo Business,” a new single and video.
Lakeyah, a rising Milwaukee rapper and Quality Control Music force of nature, releases “Mind Yo Business” [feat. Latto] as a new single and music video today via Motown Records.
Lakeyah whips out one bulletproof bar after another with no shortage of flirting fire and skill on the single, which features horns over a propulsive groove. She grins and says, “I enjoy it when men pursue me. If you’re trying to replace me, good luck.” Meanwhile, Latto makes an equally powerful cameo, complete with poetic brilliance and precision. Lakeyah and Latto take over a hedge labyrinth in the accompanying video, almost leaving a trail of flames after an incendiary and show-stopping back-and-forth.
Lakeyah discusses working along with Latto stating “I had the opportunity to work with one of my favorite new period rap ladies! The song and the video are both fantastic. “Mind Yo Business” is one of my favorite songs, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Lakeyah recently signed a deal with Motown Records, one of the most historic and iconic labels of all time, making yet another powerful move. According to the QC artist, “I’m ecstatic and grateful to be associated with Motown Records. They’ve always been enthusiastic about my music, but now it’s on a whole new level!”
Ethiopia Habtemariam, Motown’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, says, “Lakeyah is a natural talent who has been honing her skills under QC’s guidance. Her transition from rap prowess to melodious vocalist is smooth, and we’re looking forward to all of her upcoming albums. Lakeyah has been dedicated to her trade since she was 15 years old, and she is now poised for greatness.”
Pierre ‘P’ Thomas, CEO of Quality Control, says, “We’ve been working with Lakeyah for a few years, knowing we had our sights set on this Motown signing because she has all the makings of a superstar. I have no doubt she will advance swiftly in this culture and leave a significant imprint.”
“Mind Yo Business” follows Lakeyah’s previous song, “I Look Good.” The song received considerable critical acclaim in addition to over 1 million total streams. The Source commended the “fiery hook,” while REVOLT described it as “a confidence-filled hymn that serves to show off her flair and passion shortly before her summers takeover.” It was also mentioned in Essence and Uproxx.
