Omer Netzer brings grit, soul, and a whole lot of personality to Let It Sing: Side A, a five-track EP that balances the sting of heartbreak with the thrill of desire and the hard lessons of regret. Produced by David “Messy” Mescon, the project builds on Netzer’s earlier work while giving his bluesy, guitar-driven sound more room to roam. With sessions recorded partly at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the EP carries a rootsy spirit, but Netzer’s distinctive raspy voice is what really pulls you in.
Opening track “Praise The Lord (For A Woman)” wastes no time making an impression. Horns burst through the arrangement, guitars churn, and steady beats keep everything moving as Netzer delivers each line with a catchy, engaging storytelling style. There’s a playful swagger in his performance, making the song feel lively and mischievous. That adventurous energy reaches another level on “Unholy,” the EP’s focus track. Fiery horns, gritty guitars, and tongue-in-cheek biblical imagery turn temptation and desire into a rowdy musical ride. Netzer knows how to have fun with his subject matter, and that sense of humor gives the track plenty of character.
But there’s more to this project than swagger and cheeky charm. “Don’t Ask Me” digs into the emotional aftermath of heartbreak, bringing vulnerability to the forefront, while “Shadow on Your Sunshine” takes a gentler, more reflective path. Soft piano creates a tender backdrop as Netzer sings with warmth and sincerity, contemplating the damage of reckless choices and the loss of someone who once brought light into his life. It’s a welcome change of pace that reveals the softer side of his songwriting.
Let It Sing: Side A works because it allows contrasting moods to coexist. Netzer can be playful one moment and painfully introspective the next, all while keeping his raw vocal presence and musicianship front and center. As the first chapter of a planned three-part release, this EP makes a compelling case for an artist willing to follow his instincts and let every side of himself sing.
