Eagle Owl is throwing a full-on dance party with “LIAR.” This electrifying summer anthem blasts you with a shot of nostalgia straight to the 2010s—along with all the pop culture references.
“LIAR” revs with buzzing distortion and thumping beats that burrow into your ears and gnarl them up with a head-nodding manic hit. Eagle Owl’s vocals are energetic and they catchily match the rhythm of the heavy beats with every line, which keeps you hooked. It’s the kind of song that has you singing along after just one listen, and dancing to it by the third.
“LIAR” ensues to get behind cancel-culture(as bad as getting cancelled on Hunger Games) and the overwhelming presence of Instagram, TikTok, and the ever-growing digital landscape erasing the past goodies. Eagle Owl clearly yearns for a simpler time, name-dropping early internet staples like Smosh and Big Time Rush.
The song keeps things dynamic with a sultry female voice, muffled and whispery, as she exclaims, “Oh God, you are a liar!” This is peak storytelling as it kind of feels like eavesdropping on a messy but relatable situation.
Eagle Owl’s influences shine through, with nods to artists like G-Eazy, Bad Omens, and Thousand Foot Krutch. The result is a unique blend of pop sensibilities and electronic muscle that feels both familiar and fresh.
Eagle Owl had his Live debut at Winnipeg’s Mango Fest last year. If he’s already this good, that calls for us to stay tuned and keep jamming to “LIAR.”
