Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Radhika Vekaria has outdone herself with her latest single, “Liberate,” released this March 8. This track is yet the grandest and most transformative music I have ever heard that has undergone the yearning for inner peace.
“Liberate” opens with an ominous and mysterious atmosphere, creating a spacious soundscape that immediately captivates. The anticipation builds as Radhika’s soft yet thick voice enters, singing slowly and with profound meaning invoked in her lyrics. Her vocal delivery intimately and powerfully draws you into her journey of doubt and darkness.
The song surprises when powerful Sanskrit lines from the Maha Mritjunjaya mantra from the ancient Rig Veda come echoing in layers. The mantra sounds divine and the echoing reverbed layers enhance this effect with an anthemic esteem. The shimmering music behind the mantra allows us full concentration to dip head to toe in the sanctuary of the music. The juxtaposition of English and Sanskrit lyrics bridges two continents and their rich cultures, emphasizing the unity of humanity and the shared livelihood on Earth.
With the bridge returns the Sanskrit verse with more momentum and intensity, driven by a building and beating rhythm section. There follows Radhika’s voice trailing and soaring with her vibrato bending with skill and sensation. This shows her proficiency in ethnic and exotic traditional Indian musicality. It also proves how deeply rooted she is in cultural authenticity, which provokes us to experience her allure.
“Liberate” is only the beginning of something special. Radhika Vekaria has her album, Warriors of Light, coming up this late Summer of 2024. As the first single, “Liberate” marks itself a highly special track that you must enrapture your ears with.
