Like a Fire Engine by Dream of a Man in a Top Hat: Review
The marvel of classic rock has been experiencing a revival as of late. Such is the dominant tale of Dream of a Man in a Top Hat and their groovy rock and roll number “Like a Fire Engine.” Equal parts moody and zesty the track captures the essence of resonant guitars, and an upbeat singer commanding the mic.
“Like a Fire Engine” establishes an interesting sound balance. For instance, when the bass comes on, the other instruments are just a tad bit faded. Doing so, added a dramatic presence to the song. Speaking of drama, in the middle a jazz-drumming solo arrives out of nowhere. Surprised by this segment, my appreciation for the musicians’ effort expanded. It takes a truly bold individual to mix classic rock and jazz, and the outcome was indeed fruitful to hear. In terms of instrumental synergy and tone, “Like a Fire Engine” excelled. The guitar tone and phrasing were on point and blended right into the track’s mechanics.
Back in the day, I frequently debated with my dearest friends whether classic rock would be a remnant of the past. To this day, that debate still stands and I’ve always vouched for the genre with pride. There’s something profound about bands such as Scorpions, and the Eagles that inspires me. Similarly, the melodic soul of rockers such as Dream of a Man in a Top Hat brings on a familiar sentiment, and I couldn’t be happier.
