Listen to Post Malone and Roddy Ricch’s new song “Cooped Up”
Post Malone hasn’t released an album since Hollywood’s Bleeding in 2019, but that will change next month with the release of twelve carat toothache. The album includes the Weeknd collaboration “One Right Now,” as well as a collaboration with Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold titled “A Love/Hate Letter To Alcohol.” But we won’t get to hear that one just yet; instead, a new song with Roddy Ricch has surfaced ahead of Posty’s Saturday Night Live appearance this weekend.
The duo’s first collaboration since the “Wow.” remix, “Cooped Up,” is a miasmic pop-rap track in the manner of previous Posty blockbusters like “Sunflower.” “I’ve been feelin’ cooped up,” he sings on the hook, which sounds like something someone might write during a pandemic.
“I’m trying, man,” Post Malone said to Apple’s Zane Lowe about “Cooped Up.” I’m attempting. I’ve been out of my bag for quite some time now, and I’m trying to get back in, guy. We knew exactly what we wanted to convey and express, not just in a song, but in that precise time on the album. And, yes, it came really naturally. I couldn’t tell you anything. “I was probably high at the time I wrote it.” “He’s just such a wonderful dude and simply a natural performer, vocalist, and writer,” he said of Roddy Ricch. And he just goes for it, which is awesome. And it’s just fun to watch him develop. And he’s such a lovely, lovely man. And you’re incredibly talented, man. “I’m ecstatic.”
Posty and Roddy will most likely play “Cooped Up” on Saturday Night Live this weekend, so get ready.
