Austin, Texas-based songwriter and guitarist JB Elwood shows us how to be empathetic and see through people’s addictions in his latest single, “Lost In My Ways,” released on April 11th. This introspective track, written by Elwood himself, delves into the journey of self-discovery and redemption, making it a poignant anthem for anyone facing their demons.
Heavy, smug riffs set the stage as the song begins, only to give way to Elwood’s tender and luscious voice. With vulnerability and defeat dripping from every word, he, in his low vocal range, depicts an addicted alcoholic coming to terms with the need for change. The verses build with a foot-tapping rhythm, drawing us deeper into the emotional landscape of the song.
The pre-chorus gets Elwood’s soaring to a high falsetto as he grapples with the chaos inside. “I know I tried to tame all the chaos inside/I am reckless and alive,” he sings, his voice trailing ethereally and soulfully. And when the chorus hits, he delivers the lines, “Cause I am too lost in my ways.” with breathless urgency, capturing the desperation and despair.
Against a backdrop of smacking drums and bold guitar riffs, Elwood’s sultry softness shines through, underscoring the humility of his search for redemption. “Lost In My Ways” is just a taste of what’s to come from the heartfelt storytelling and swooning sensibility of JB Elwood. The artist has a full-length album coming up this year.
So if you are looking for music that’s equal parts introspective and exhilarating, stay tuned with JB Elwood.
