William Blake Hyatt, under his digital alter ego The FloodShark, presents “LoveShark”, a compact yet immersive EP that captures his unique journey through digital and geographic landscapes. Entirely self-produced, written, and mixed by Hyatt, the release demonstrates a singular artistic vision, blending autobiographical storytelling with eclectic sonic textures drawn from Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond. Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, the EP serves as a tightly written suite of soundscapes reflecting personal trials, lost love, and the fluidity of life across continents.
Influenced by an astonishing range of artists – from classical titan Beethoven to electronic innovators like Oneohtrix Point Never, Aphex Twin, and Flying Lotus, as well as jazz legend Miles Davis and the cinematic work of Angelo Badalamenti – “LoveShark” channels this diversity into a digital-aquatic aesthetic. Hyatt’s music is both reflective and playful, evoking the currents of human experience while immersing listeners in an experimental, almost fantastical sonic ocean.
The EP’s sound is as vivid as its concept. Tracks like “Marmaid” employ steel drums, soft synths, dolphin cackles, and water textures to conjure a tropical, aquatic world, while “I Don’t Know, Ya Know” balances buoyant melodies with subtle emotional ambiguity. Across all pieces, Hyatt weaves Latin American and Caribbean instrumentation into a digital framework, producing music that feels both globally informed and entirely personal. Each track unfolds with meticulous attention to rhythm, timbre, and atmosphere, creating an intimate yet expansive listening experience.
At its heart, “LoveShark” is a celebration of personal narrative and sonic exploration. Drawing on years spent across Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Colombia, Hyatt crafts a digital voyage that is as much about place as it is about introspection. The EP stands out as a singular statement in contemporary electronic music: a small but potent package of originality, technical skill, and imaginative storytelling for listeners ready to dive into an entirely unique sound world.
