Manic Pixie Dream by sydneyunicorns: Review

Los Angeles-based artist Sydney Angel (as sydneyunicorns) creates music, video, and other forms of art. Sydney’s emotive melodies and melodies span several genres, reflecting her background as a classically educated musician and primarily self-taught music producer. Her song ‘Manic Pixie Dream’ is a dreamy and groovy track. There are electronic elements in the music that is very refreshing to hear. This is because electronica has reached a stage in the music industry where, if you notice close enough, all the hit songs may sound the same instrumental-wise. However, Sydney manages to create a breathtaking song with her creativity and prowess that truly stands out. I don’t mean to disrespect any artist when I say some hit electronica songs may sound the same, in fact, it’s just an opinion, and I love each piece of music from hit songs nonetheless.

Now back to ‘Manic Pixie Dream’. It is a fantastic ode, that feels quite magical to hear. Sydney’s voice is very clean and relaxing to hear as it reverberates through the echoing percussion. The bass line and atmospheric effects add a unique flavor to the mix, that I believe sydneyunicorns have mastered. I feel quite fortunate and honored to hear such a colorful track from a rising artist, can’t wait to hear more!

Sydney’s lyrics are an abstraction of her inner experience. She uses everything she knows, and is discovering about herself and society as inspiration. Her artistic process is guided by a desire to help others through a melodic aspect of humanity.
