Brian Asha’s “Mighty Man (Jack De Keyzer’s Rock’n’Roll Remix)” serves up a gritty blues-rock anthem with a distinctive personality. Bringing together two-time Juno Award-winning guitarist Jack De Keyzer and Grammy-winning producer Philip Larsen, Asha transforms his original 2013 electro-driven composition into something considerably rougher around the edges, blending old-school blues attitude with punchy rock energy and dance-floor sensibilities.
The track opens with Asha’s raspy voice boldly declaring himself a mighty man before the instrumentals kick the door wide open. Grinding, gritty guitar riffs collide with a steady, thumping drumbeat, giving the song a muscular groove that refuses to sit still. Asha sings about doing what he has to do and not needing a woman, delivering his lines with a cheeky, unapologetic bravado. Meanwhile, De Keyzer’s blues-infused guitar work brings plenty of bite, injecting the arrangement with the kind of raw, road-tested energy that makes classic blues-rock such a blast. There’s a satisfying AC/DC-esque punch to the guitar hits, while a funk-inspired bassline adds an extra spring to the song’s swagger. Backing vocals from Toronto singers Aria Zenua and Erin Reece round out the sound, adding further colour to the raucous proceedings.
Inspired by Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” and Bo Diddley’s “I’m a Man,” the track proudly wears its influences on its sleeve without getting stuck in the past. Asha and longtime collaborator Karl Mohr also bring DJ cut-up techniques into the mix, turning De Keyzer’s live guitar performances into playful, rhythmic textures. Larsen’s remixing expertise further connects the song’s rock roots with contemporary production.
Beyond the bravado, “Mighty Man (Jack De Keyzer’s Rock’n’Roll Remix)” carries a broader mission through Asha’s Mighty IRL movement, encouraging young men to step away from their screens and reconnect with real-life experiences.
