La Hora Exacta’s latest album, Mind Games, is an eclectic collection of intriguing and profound songs. From the moody introspective tracks to the more upbeat and energetic numbers, this album offers something for everyone.
The opener, “Hojas Blancas,” has a moody bassline, a smacking and jangly groove, and soulful dueting vocals that put us in a theatrical stupor. Only in the bridge, does the haze lift and bring a folksy vibe with acoustic guitars strumming lightly overhead and drums thumping hard.
“Desistir o Resistir” illustrates a soothing piece with a gentle piano gushing in amidst an introspective, engaging monologue which turns into a duet and a choir follows and makes the song even more soulful.
The band’s self-titled track, “La Hora Exacta” is more exciting as it opens with a building tap and a snarling low voice, that sings the tense refrain, “la hora.” The music starts to churn and chime while the singer sings with vibrancy over a sparkling rhythm section.
The title track, “Mind Games,” is a standout piece with its soothing piano tunes, and sparkling percussion turning all the more theatrical. The unexpected twists and turns in the music keep the listener engaged throughout. “Serpientes Que Nunca Muerden” is another highlight, featuring a sudden strain of strings and a resemblance of a poignant dialogue between the singers.
La Hora Exacta has given its listeners some intricate layers, textures and richness within 13 layers along with themes of love, loss, hope, and so much more. Check out Mind Games on Spotify.
