Mirror by Paytron Saint: Review

Mirror, the latest single from the melodic grunge band hailing from Amber Valley, Derbyshire ‘Paytron Saint’ is an introspective dialogue of opposing ideas of living.
Bridging the gap between the timeless classic sound of vintage prog and modern indie, the song is a kaleidoscope of sound from different eras of rock. Lyrically, the song is an introspective dialogue between two brothers with opposing lifestyles. This gives the song a thought-provoking premise to intrigue the listeners to have a reality check for themselves. The band pairs it up with an equally intriguing musical arrangement. Starting off with reverberating guitars over a drone and adding layers with each bar until the Geddy Lee-inspired vocals enter the song keeping the listener engaged with its gripping guitar riffs and the intriguing lyrics. The call and response of the vocal lines give the song a duet effect. With its prominent bass and progression, the song has a prog-meets-grunge vibe to it. Most people associate that term with Alice In Chains but in this case, it’s more like Rush meets Soundgarden. The song grows more complex in its sounds as it progresses until it’s to the point of grunge unhinged with the fast and hard-hitting drums, heavy rhythm guitars, and the soaring guitar solo unleashed all at once to quiet down bringing the song back to the point of introspection and then unleash it all one last time before coming to an end.
To round things up, the band has done an excellent job of putting together a thought-provoking song both on the lyrical and musical front. If you’re a fan of bands like Rush, Yes, Genesis, Soundgarden, Nirvana and Pearl Jam, this song and the band Paytron Saint is right up your alley.
