London, Kentucky’s Andrew Moore and Hooch return with Mountain, a sophomore Americana album shaped by nearly two years of writing, recording and pushing beyond the expectations set by their award-winning debut. Moore wrote every song from real-life experiences, and that personal foundation gives the record a sense of lived-in determination. Recorded live across five studios, including Nashville’s legendary Sound Stage Studios, the album captures a band that sounds tight without sanding away its rougher edges.
The title track opens with bustling percussion, heavy beats and moody guitars moving melodically underneath Moore’s energetic, charismatic vocal. “Mountain” is essentially a song about refusing to stay where doubt puts you. Beneath its confident chorus is a much more vulnerable story of long workdays, missing family, carrying responsibility and trying to keep faith while everything feels uncertain. Moore sings about pushing through the noise, trusting God and continuing upward even when nobody else believes in the climb. The mountain becomes less a destination than a measure of everything he is willing to endure.
That determination takes a darker turn on “Tyrant,” featuring John Daly and Dan Tyminski. A trailing, moody melody establishes an uneasy atmosphere before heavy deep bass and steady, slow beats push the track forward. Moore’s high voice sounds despondent and worn down as he describes a relationship that has become emotionally suffocating. The song’s repeated plea for peace gradually turns into a declaration of independence, giving the track an emotional arc from exhaustion to release.
Across Mountain, that contrast between perseverance and vulnerability makes the album feel grounded. The live recording approach adds immediacy, while collaborators including Jason Groves, Justine Blazer, Nick Autry and John Daly help broaden the band’s Americana palette. At the end of the day, Mountain is about carrying heavy things without letting them decide where you end up, one hard-earned step at a time.
