Music for Headphones by Greg Herzenach: Album Review
Greg Herzenach’s full-length album, “Music for Headphone,” was released in 2021 which he produced on his own. A tasteful and soulful album with a bit of early “Pink Floyd” style in a few songs, a bit of “The Beatles,” and more bands seemed like inspiration for this album. It is a combination of rock, synth, psychedelic, hip-hop, and a mixture of soul.
The first song “Day,” begins with a soothing sonar synth sound and continues into an acoustic plucking and, as it goes, then enters the sweet sound of the vocals. There are some psychedelic feels throughout the song, and the tone of the keyboard resembles a lot of “Supertramp.” When the song builds up and the tune changes to a different scale it sounds rather beautiful and full of vocal harmonies in every layer.
The song “Neath The Hill” starts with a cowboy tune with the acoustic guitar, then slowly the bass and the synth get in, also giving a bit of a vibe of “Pink Floyd” and “Opeth’s” album “Damnation.” The song’s peacefulness and the awesome-styled guitar solo run say a lot about this song and the artist’s inspiration.
“A Simple Way.”- This song has a very classical sound to it; an acoustic guitar introduces the tune, and then the singer comes in right away. In the chorus, the mood shifts as more instruments join in, making the music sound fuller and more exciting. Although the instruments and vocals in “A Simple Way” are somewhat rudimentary, the song is undeniably melodious in its execution.
The full album is a treat for the listener’s ears and soul; it is a journey to somewhere beautiful. Listeners will undoubtedly enjoy the album from beginning to end.
