TB Wizz And the Dark, the musical project of Stéphane Celotto, takes us decades back into the 60s through the album My Delusions. Recorded with vintage equipment at WDD Records in Toulouse with a retro and atmospheric approach, the album gets behind alienation, inner turmoil, and the search for freedom.
Opening the album with a titular punch, “My Delusions” captures the disillusionment of unfulfilled aspirations. Celotto’s vocals, bold and brimming with charisma, ride a wave of distorted guitar riffs. The song balances a catchy melody with introspective lyrics, chronicling a fall from youthful ambition to the harsh realities of adulthood.
“You Give Me the A” contrasts dark undertones with a sensual delivery. Celotto’s rich, deep vocals ooze sultriness, complementing the song’s hypnotic rhythm. The lyrics, with their quirky metaphor of “playing tag,” allude to passion and longing, creating a visceral yet mysterious atmosphere.
“Try To Save Your Baby” shifts to a more reflective tone with gnarling guitar chords and a steady beat growing into a hypnotic meditation on protecting innocence in a chaotic world. Celotto’s grave vocals and the haunting guitar solo envelop us in the fragility.
“W Is Gone” introduces shimmering percussion and raw, gnarling guitars, creating a more airy yet gritty soundscape. “W Is Gone” is a commentary on political and corporate corruption, referencing the collapse of empires and financial crises against imagery of rebellion and liberation.
