Nakamarra by Simple Sessions: Review

Simple Sessions are a chill neo-soul/jazz act that’ll enchant you with their soothing music. Their cover of Hiatus Kaiyote’s iconic piece “Nakamarra” has such a vibe, and is a fitting tribute to the original. Simple Sessions does a fantastic job of creating that jazzy allure through mellow guitar chords intertwining with bass and keys. Aside from that, a serene singer leads the mic and paves the way for the entire piece to shine.
“Nakamarra” is such a pleasant tune, it’s been playing on repeat for a while now, and I can’t help but just stay still and hear the music consume me. Simple Sessions’ ability to create that aura is sensational, and I couldn’t have asked for a better melody to keep me company. Furthermore, the song has some intriguing transitions that keep you hooked on its cadence. Particularly the percussion work does most of the shifts in tempo, and witnessing all that come together in a nice jazzy outfit was stellar. “Nakamarra” pertains to the idea of minimalist coffee shops, quiet autumn nights, and just sipping a delicious cup of joe while the song plays. Try it out for yourselves, folks, and thank me later.
Hiatus Kaiyote would be proud of Simple Sessions recreating their track. It’s got every bit of resonance that the original does, and the tone is pretty fresh. Do give this track a listen people, it is available for streaming after all!
