New Moon by Domax: EP Review

‘New Moon’, an EP by London-based multi-instrumentalist Domax, is out and it is a compilation of six songs of ambient and experimental electronic music. The extended play has been praised for its originality of sound and its ability to immerse listeners in an experience that holds their attention throughout.

With its ethereal soundscapes and eponymous title, ‘New Moon’ establishes the mood for the whole album. Each layer adds to the mesmerizing, peaceful atmosphere created by the various rhythms. The tension of ‘Origin Theory’, which is built with glitchy rhythms and haunting melodies, is gradually relieved in a way that’s both effective and enjoyable. The grooving beats in ‘Energy Test’ and ‘Homeslice’ are a surefire way to get your foot tapping. The song ‘Guava’ has an irresistible sound because f its pulsing rhythms and complex melodies. Album closer ‘Nebula’ has glistening synthesizers and a steadily developing pace, leaving listeners with a feeling of awe and intrigue.

The whole of ‘New Moon’ serves as a showcase for Domax’s skill at constructing enveloping soundscapes and fusing organic instruments with synthetic textures. His mastery in sound design and composition is prominent throughout this EP, which takes the listener on a trip through a variety of inventive sounds and grooving beats.
