Night Stalker by 1st Base Runner: EP Review
Tim Husmann, a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Texas, is the man behind the comprehensive melodic creation known as 1st Base Runner. The EP “Night Stalker’ has a kaleidoscopic feel filled with vibrant ambient pieces, but also an atmosphere instilling a dark aura.
The EP starts off with the cinematic flair of “In the Neighborhood”. It’s a hauntingly beautiful number filled with stellar synthesizers, a minimal guitar sequence, and deep vocal lines to put the final polish. Moving on to “Dark Drive Through the Canyon” put my senses into a mind-bending state. Incorporating heavy doses of psychedelia and shoegazing, the track is almost like a drone piece aligned with interesting keyboard notes. The title track “Night Stalker” is a catchy experimental pop-infused track that captivates you with the hip-hop style percussion and accompanying synth arpeggios. Giving off a pleasant cadence, the musician’s method to remain theatrically profound was still prevalent and glorious to hear.
1st Base Runner ended the EP with “The Serpent and Space”, which has a brighter melody than the rest of the tracks and adds bass to the mix. The vocal lines blended with the instrumentation give the song an almost heavenly aesthetic, kind of painting the picture of an “out of body experience” if you will. So, in its entirety, the EP is a nice mish-mash of melancholy and drama. All the music produced has a soothing, and meditative feel about it. Ultimately, a joyous experience, which you should definitely acknowledge!
