If thereโs anything you would refer to as an adultโs lullaby, that would be Nishyโs latest EP, โMemories from a Vinyl.โ
The album is the sweetest, most romantic, most transcending, and most tranquil culmination of the electropop and R&B genres. Nishy is a dark horse amongst rising stars for coming upon her signature sound this way. The EP comprises 5 tracks, the first of which reminds you of an old jittery TV or a damaged vinyl circulating with a vague voice asking, โHello itโs me/ You hear?โ The voice doubles up with an echo effect, sounding even more reminiscent, antique, and melancholic.
The glitz returns in the next track, but with piano and Lofi beats and a low, upfront timbre to Nishyโs voice. The music in the album is produced in such a way that her voice is layered in the higher and lower ranges, with the occasional ASMR whisper. Her soft and dulcet voice is especially tender in MMT, where she lusciously speaks French, โMinuit sans toi,โ which translates to โMidnight without youโ in English. Nishy takes on a more vulnerable and melancholic turn in her 4th track, โPhase,โ with more reverbs and her stretched voice lulling, โAs weโre spinning around/Red Vinyl Cracks.โ
In her album, Nishy takes us on a calm voyage over a placid lake with the waters reflecting a glittering moon from the first to the last track because thatโs precisely what โMemories from a Vinylโ sounds like with Nishyโs sirenlike, sultry, luscious voice reverbed alongside Lofi aesthetic.
