From the first track of “The Afterdrop,” we hear the beat of drums from the middle, disrupting the immersive experience of the jittery synth wave and guitar combo.
The jittery track seamlessly blends into the next track, ‘Words in Vain,’ which almost seems like part of the previous track due to some of the glitziness humming softly. Then Sleep Kicks takes over with an electric guitar progression only to be further accompanied by drums and percussion, sounding almost atmospheric in its enrapturing immersive production.
The guitar strings pump in the back as Terje Kleven, the man on vocals and guitar, sings in a rich, clear, and velvety voice: “Breaking through the static noise/Is there room for one more voice/Do they listen?/Do they care?”
Neptune, our next track, is a fan favorite due to its electro-pop and synths bolting parallelly to the vocals. Sounding almost entirely different, Neptune is an adventurous take on the band’s sound. With the ability to become a power-pop anthem, the synth-wave dances as the chorus hits with “I am ready to go to you.”
The rest of the album, ‘The Afterdrop,’ carries the indie rock narrative with smashing guitar and drum combos. Terje’s rich voice gives way to our reflection until the last track, ‘No Coming Back,’ which ends conclusively like a swan song on a soft guitar play, until the last minute when the music and the vocals stop for a hallowing and echoing note to crawl and linger, enabling you to picture a dark and insidious dungeon.
