Swedish punk outfit Repeatโs latest single, โNothing New,โ released June 13, clocks in at just under three minutes but manages to punch a gaping hole through the noise of modern life. Itโs the second single from their forthcoming EP Celebrate, and true to its title, this track celebrates nothing but raw emotion and bitter truth.
From the first second, โNothing Newโ is all grit and fury. Distorted guitars grind like gears on the verge of collapse, and pounding drums drive the song forward with relentless force. The vocals come in with tense urgency, raging against a world of recycled narratives, empty promises, and aesthetic over substance. The sharp awareness in lines like โPainting a picture / Selling us lies now / But we say that this is nothing new,โ hits like a slap of clarity through the static.
The production, done once again with Joakim Lindberg at Studio Sickan in Malmรถ, captures the bandโs heavier yet more melodic direction. The tightness in the instrumentation is a controlled chaos that keeps the fury focused. Midway through, the grinding tension loosens its grip in a surprising bridge where melodic guitar chimes flicker through the fog, the drums slowly rebuild, and hazy backing vocals stretch out like a brief gasp of air before diving back into the storm.
โNothing Newโ might be Repeatโs title, but the energy they bring to their songwriting is anything but. With this track hyping up the vibes, Celebrate is shaping up to be the cathartic scream we all didnโt know we needed. Check it out on Spotify.
