Nowhere Close To Famous by Raymond Revel: Review
Following the success of his number one single ‘Sunrise’, the Californian singer-songwriter Raymond Revel is back with his fresh new disco-pop-inspired tune ‘Nowhere Close To Famous’.
The retro-sounding synths playing merry tunes combined with punchy beats pave the way for Raymond Revel’s captivating vocals to take over and create a soundscape that is catchy and easy to vibe with. The song boasts positivity celebrating “the ordinary life.” The storyline shifts from beginning to end, which is one of the song’s most interesting aspects. At the outset, the track treats “famous” as if it were an abstract concept located far away, on a mountain. At the song’s conclusion, though, Revel says he’d rather stay “Nowhere Close To Famous,” implying that there’s much to rejoice over in the mundane aspects of daily life. A positive view on life is captured perfectly in this song.
Musically, the song has a nostalgic upbeat vibe that’s really accessible and captivating. The synths are reminiscent of the 80s 8-bit games that elevate the song’s nostalgia factor. The disco-inspired overlaying melodies and the vocal chops might remind someone of early Owl City songs. One might also point out Charlie Puth and Harry Style influences in the vocal melodies but Raymond has his own chops that make him stand out. The excellent songwriting and production quality just go to further prove this very point.
