Lawrenceville, New Jersey artist Tony Lio’s latest single, “Nyx” is a sonic journey into the depths of night that blends rock and ethereal elements.
Produced by Matthew Pelosi, the track opens with a shimmering, almost dreamlike soundscape, with riffs glinting their chords. They manifest a sparkling ambience over a steady, driving drumbeat. This juxtaposition of light and dark creates an immediate sense of intrigue.
Lio’s vocals are a standout feature, with a deep, gravelly tone that anchors the song in shadows and mystery. Amidst the instrumentals are dispersed the ethereal vocals of Lupe Dragon that echo into the mist and create a haunting and seductive atmosphere. The contrast between the two vocal styles adds depth and complexity to the track.
Tony Lio sings gravely in the low ranges as if casting a spell and calling the goddess of the night. The guitars get gritty and start grinding hard over the thumping and clashing drums and smashing cymbals, while the singer’s voice soars high and becomes a high raspy voice as it rises.
The music builds steadily throughout the song, culminating in a powerful and explosive climax. The bridge gets dark and intense as the tour de force of a guitar solo echoes and bends in the thunderous roiling instrumentals.
“Nyx” is a track that demands repeated listens, revealing new layers of complexity and beauty with each play.
