“Older” is a reflective electronic piece from producer and visual artist DJ Thommek. He’s always treated music and visual art as an intertwined language, and this release continues that approach with minimal elements, big feeling, and movement happening within you.
The production stays intentionally sparse. A steady, lightly pulsing beat keeps the track grounded while soft synth textures drift in and out like passing thoughts. It never tries to overwhelm. Instead, it creates a meditative pocket where time slows enough for memory to unfold.
The vocal performance is key here. The singer’s voice is delicate and high, almost weightless. She sings as if she’s letting the words float out of her rather than pushing them forward. In the refrain, when she repeats “I’m getting older, older” the simplicity of the line hits harder than any ornate lyric could. With that relatable, creeping stress and tension that comes with growing up and being pushed out into the world. ISo it’s honest, resigned, and human. The verses expand on that feeling of growing up creeping closer, hope held carefully, change happening whether we’re ready or not.
There’s a bittersweetness running through the song, but not in a dark or heavy way. Realizing you have on a long train ride, watching the world pass, aware that time is moving, aware that you’re moving with it.
No big drop. No chaos. Just a pulse, a memory, and a voice trying to make peace with all the things we can’t slow down.
It’s intimate like that moment you’re trying to hold on to, as it slips away gradually. Listen to “Older” by DJ Thommek on Spotify.
