Camila returned to the Saturday Night Live stage after Willow’s performance of “Psychofreak,” to perform another song off her most recent album, Familia. Camila partnered with Ed Sheeran on a slightly more casual track, “Bam Bam,” after releasing one of the album’s first singles, “La Buena Vida,” late last year, which came with a tiny desk concert replete with a mariachi band.
The song is about a recent breakup, and most people will assume it’s about Camila’s own breakup with Shawn Mendes, her fellow pop star ex-boyfriend. Instead of taking a sad or bitter path, the song takes a more existentially lighthearted approach, accepting the terrible with the good as life goes on, which is a very refreshing take on the genre. Of all, songs like that can only be written after a split has healed, so Camila appears to be well on her way to moving on.
Camila sent out a plethora of colorful dancers for her second Saturday Night Live performance of the night, and she wore a tie-dye jacket and cutoff shorts herself. The song is a polar opposite of Cabello’s “Psychofreak” feelings, bordering on delightfully raucous, demonstrating Cabello’s range. Watch the performance in the video above.
