Los Angeles-based songstress Princess Liv hits you right in the feels with her latest single, “On The Line.” This 80s synth-pop gem is a shimmering exploration of loneliness and the allure of reconnecting with past flames.
“On The Line” opens with a hypnotic synth line, creating a dreamy, almost trance-like atmosphere. Liv’s voice enters, soft and vulnerable, confessing her not-so-proud tendency to revisit old relationships. She admits it’s a product of loneliness.
Then comes the chorus—an earworm you won’t be able to shake. Liv sings out her desire to reconnect. The catchy melody perfectly captures the desperate longing for a familiar connection.
The second verse explores the dynamics of reviving old ties. Brooding backing vocals add depth as Liv sings about the inevitable and ill-fated fallout. Despite the heartbreak, Liv can’t help but cling to a sliver of hope. The dreamy, twinkling instrumentals intensify and manifest into the perfect 80s synth-pop, surrounding her voice in what feels both hopeful and melancholic. With layered vocals, her message and her desperation build in intensity.
The lyrics, “I’ve been trying to call you baby/But would you pick up?” capture the relatable struggle of the contrivance for connection amidst unrequited feelings, while leaving you vulnerable to the possibility of being left hanging on the line.
Listen to Princess Liv’s “On The Line” and imagine the both musically and emotionally beautiful, nostalgic, and simplistic pop mess of wanting what you can’t have.
