MARS_999 continues to lean into the strange and the sublime with “OSTROV,” a single that quietly descends into an inner world. Translating to “My Own Island,” the track sits at the intersection of alienation and intimacy, pairing minimalist Slovak lyrics with an experimental alt-trap soundscape. Produced by Rohinn Brown and polished to a pristine sheen, it’s part poetry, part atmosphere, and all mood. This project has always thrived on doing things a little differently, and here, that off-kilter identity only deepens.

Right from the jump, “OSTROV” pulls you into a hazy, dreamy space. The opening floats in with soft, blurred melodies. Then sharp, gritty synths cut through like static in the air, adding an edge that keeps things unsettled. It’s a push and pull between calm and tension, like drifting on water while something stirs beneath.

Vocally, the singer’s voice comes subdued yet piercing. He sounds despondent, almost detached, but then rises into these soaring moments that echo through the atmospheric backdrop. The lyrics themselves are stripped down to the bone. They translate: “Come with me. To the island. No words. Just the dark.” That simplicity hits harder than anything overly elaborate. It’s intimate, a little eerie, and leaves plenty of room for interpretation.

And then there’s the visual side of things, which really seals the deal. Set in a stark, cold opening in the woods, the music video mirrors the song’s emotional isolation. Two masked figures move through the woods, their faces obscured by painted plastic, their movements uneasy before they dance intriguingly. In one scene, they are sort of wrapped in plastic, where they are struggling, shifting, existing in this uncanny limbo. It’s bizarre, sure, but also oddly hypnotic.
