Wild Horse is charging full steam ahead with their second single of 2025, “Overthinking,” the latest track from the East Sussex indie-pop quartet and a shining addition to their ever-growing, genre-fluid discography. Dropped on June 25 and produced by the ever-reliable Gary Stevenson, the single again showcases frontman Jack Baldwin’s knack for vulnerable, melodic storytelling. Riding the success of their earlier release, “READ MY MIND (VIBES SONG),” the band once again hits that sweet spot between slick production and raw energy.
“Overthinking” is about exactly what the title promises, with the jittery excitement, self-doubt, and cautious optimism that floods your system when you’re teetering on the edge of a new romantic connection. Jack’s vocals, sung in a crisp, high tone, build tension like the song itself is holding its breath. It’s a clever vocal performance that mimics the mind’s stop-start rhythm when spiraling into overanalysis. Meanwhile, the guitar riffs shimmer with warmth, and the rhythm section moves with a comforting steadiness that contrasts beautifully with the lyrical anxiety. High harmonies float above the mix, calming and catchy in equal measure.
On the flip side, “Read My Mind (Vibes Song)” gives us another infectious dose of Wild Horse’s energetic, indie funk-pop. Swirling harmonies and a groovy guitar rhythm open the track, with the singer’s reflective tone giving way to a chorus that explodes with freedom. The guitar and drums tighten and lift into a sing-along moment that refuses to leave your head.
With Overthinking, Wild Horse become masters of modern pop with a vintage soul. Listen to it on Spotify.
