Nashville-based singer-songwriter Ben Ripani returns with Pangea, an emotionally transparent EP shaped by grief, heartbreak, and the difficult process of rebuilding a life. Written in the wake of losing a parent and the collapse of a marriage, these songs unfold like honest journal entries, carried by sincere songwriting and grounded musicianship from Ripani alongside a trusted group of collaborators from Chicago and Nashville. The collection embraces vulnerability.
The emotional center of the EP arrives early with “Runaways,” a reflective indie rock anthem that balances nostalgia with acceptance. Deep bass rumbles beneath firm, thumping beats while lightly strummed guitars create an inviting backdrop for Ripani’s engaging vocal delivery. The lyrics revisit a relationship once filled with youthful possibility before confronting the painful reality of its unraveling. The lines “You got away… But I’m not broken, I’m not a tragedy” become the song’s triumph, replacing bitterness with hard-earned resilience. Ripani acknowledges mistakes while refusing to let them define him.
“Arock” strips everything back for one of the EP’s most intimate moments. Clean, transparent guitar work glistens throughout as Ripani sings slowly, almost defeatedly, sounding like someone trying to make sense of pain. Images of lonely bar conversations, emotional exhaustion, and searching for happiness transform the track into a deeply personal meditation on isolation. Even at its bleakest, though, the song quietly hints that healing remains within reach.
Closing highlight “4 O’Clock” gently shifts the atmosphere toward hope. Soft acoustic guitars bloom into fuller, warmer instrumentation while Ripani’s reflective performance grows increasingly uplifting. Memories of the past mingle with promises of moving forward, culminating in a moving finale that replaces despair with cautious optimism. Rich with heartfelt lyricism and understated arrangements, Pangea proves that some of the most affecting records emerge from the courage to tell the truth exactly as it is.
