Patchen Avenue by Alec Berlin: Review
Alec Berlin’s drive to create unique musical escapades using his trusty guitar has always been a fruitful tale to hear. In the track “Patchen Avenue” Alec channels slow blues, with a slight country appeal to make a chilled-out track for everyone to vibe out to.
“Patchen Avenue” encompasses sensational guitar passages with subtle strummed chords and lead portions to make up a wholesome number. What I enjoyed was the transition breaks in between certain parts of the song where the lead takes the center stage for a vibrant take. The drumming pattern of this melody follows a jazz-style percussion method which kinda sounds like those using brush-like drumsticks. It has a nice flow and is minimal in nature, but ultimately it soothes our ears. The entire track is mostly guitar-based, and the main hook of the instrumental section has a very bluesy note arrangement that sounds really pleasant. In “Patchen Avenue” the lovely melodic segments pertain to the feel of walking by an actual street with the song’s title. So, it’d be the perfect song to just play and hum in your head while the picturesque city life passes by slowly.
I’ve heard an abundance of Alec Berlin’s melodies by now and the guitarist’s musical sense has always been a colorful one. I must say it is a fine feat to mix together blues rhythm and lead pieces with some math rock bits. The artist truly shows that he can channel an easy listening experience. All in all, it can enchant anyone into a musical spell, which is tough to forget.
