Come get trapped in the post-punk and alt-rock genius of Nomad Disco with their debut album, Pressure Island. Released on December 29, 2023, Pressure Island features 8 tracks with growing levels of pressure.
Pressure Island has a distorted “Intro” jittering alongside brooding guitar tones. Coming up, “Napoli” has guitar riffs glimmering against rhythmic pounding. The song is perfectly post-punk, with sultry, smooth singing and Italian spoken word reverbed into the piece.
With jangling and dreamy guitar tones that ripple with a mercurial heaviness, “Flashbacks” hit with its eerie instrumental undertones. After we “Enter The Torture Room” in the 7th track, Pressure Island ends with the “Torture Room” and its incrementing pressure levels with grinding electric guitars and tight drumming sequence. The album literally ends with us still shook from the screaming last line, “I’m not your bloody slave.” The conclusion really brought us to cognize the theme as we realize it wasn’t this menacing in the beginning.
The debut album alludes to the famous book, “Treasure Island” by Robert Stevenson. With the lyricism evidently representing the power-hungry system, the collection tries to tell us how our digital prison enables the war propaganda to spread as we do nothing about it except wish to escape the system without knowing how.
It takes quite some vehement desire to break through the industry with something this sincerely concerning as Pressure Island. But the alt-rock trio, Nomad Disco did it.
