There is something fascinating about artists who turn personal contradictions into dance music, and Dutch hyperpop artist Cas du Pree does exactly that on “Prism.” Released from Brummen, Netherlands, the track feels like a glossy neon confession disguised as an indie dance anthem. Drawing influence from the emotional shimmer of artists like Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, and Elton John, Cas leans into infectious pop textures while still keeping the emotional undercurrents bubbling beneath the surface.
Built alongside producer Arron Storey and lyricist Hugh Webber, “Prism” marks a brighter and far more dance-driven direction for Cas du Pree. Yet for all its upbeat pulse, the track is rooted in self-reflection. The prism metaphor at the heart of the song is clever. It’s all about how light creates colour, and darkness creates shadows. Cas presents themselves as someone capable of warmth and beauty, but also someone who reflects the energy they receive. It gives the track an emotional edge that stops it from becoming just another shiny club cut.
The production slowly pulls listeners into its orbit. It begins with atmospheric synth waves stretching across an expansive soundscape before finger snaps tighten the rhythm. Then Cas slips in softly with the line, “Let it take it all to feed my soul / In the heat of this moment, let me take control,” immediately setting the tone for a track balancing surrender and self-possession. His vocals drift between a gentle lower register and an airy falsetto layered beneath, creating an almost ghostly texture that feels dreamy and intimate all at once.
Then, before you know it, the song kicks into high gear. The beat starts pounding harder, the synths shimmer brighter, and Cas’s falsetto glides above the production with exhilarating ease. There is a late-night freedom running through “Prism,” like dancing under flashing lights while quietly unpacking your own identity in real time. Slick, personal, and irresistibly atmospheric, the track feels like a major step forward for Cas du Pree—and a strong sign that even bigger things are waiting just around the corner.
