Released on October 18, 2024, Sherayah’s new single, “Pseudo Propheta,” plunges into the dangers of ambition. Based in Los Angeles, the alternative folk artist draws inspiration from artists like Lord Huron, Hozier, and Brandi Carlile, yet carves out her storytelling style. Collaborating with producers Mark Batstone and Justin Sinclair (known for work with Ilsey, Weezer, and Scary Pockets), Sherayah crafts a dark and compelling narrative that gives each of us a mirror to look through.
“Pseudo Propheta” opens with a haunting trail of music, gradually building into an intense, suspenseful ambiance. Sherayah’s voice emerges, soft and luscious, almost youthful against the dark instrumental background, amplifying the track’s eerie undertone with the creepy opening line that visualizes blood in the artist’s hands. The guitar soon enters with gritty riffs and a melodic line that draws you in, enhanced by isolating vocal effects that create a unique dynamic. As the song progresses, a ghostly bridge comes with her voice reverbed and muffled before immersing listeners in a thick haze, expanding the sonic landscape yet maintaining an encapsulated, bubble-like effect, as though suspended in sound.
“Pseudo Propheta” explores ambition’s darker side, presenting it as a force capable of awakening insecurities and self-destructive tendencies. Sherayah taps into her own experiences, adding an authenticity that makes her portrayal of ambition’s dangers feel raw and relatable. Her lyrics unfold like an allegory, embodying the risks that come with an unchecked drive to succeed, capturing both allure and peril.
