The New Citizen Kane’s Psychedelika Pt. 1 is the opening of a whole universe. Part one of a two-part project arriving first via his own Citizen Records before streaming, it folds music, visual art, mindfulness, games, and a companion app into a direct-to-fan ecosystem. Across 17 tracks he maps love, anxiety, nightlife, philosophy, and survival, turning the comeback from a decade-long creative burnout into a technicolour narrative about how art literally keeps him alive.
It all begins with “Welcome to Psychedelika,” where mesmerizing synths pulse over catchy beats and Kane’s breathy, whisper-low vocal feels like a guide at the door, inviting you to step through the portal. Without missing a beat, “I Don’t Need To Say” rides glittering cymbals, deep low-end and lush synth tides as he sings about a love that doesn’t need constant verbal proof: “sink in your skin, I breathe in your air…” where intimacy you feel more than hear. Then “My Muse” lands as a turning point, the first song written after his long break from music, a heartfelt reclaiming of creativity as survival rather than content. Further in, “Heads Are Round” spins Francis Picabia’s quote into neon chaos, a kaleidoscopic rush of shifting thoughts where the production mirrors a mind looping and redirecting in real time.
Of course, the night gets messier. “WELL, DAMN! HERE YOU ARE” plays like a 3am bad decision set to moody trip-hop and disco groove, confessing addiction to the very person you know is bad news. “Push The Fear Out” flips social commentary into a dance-floor chant, dragging monsters out from under the bed and turning them into choreography. Then “Bite The Bullet” rips off every layer of armour, a stark breakup diary where love just dies. “Afterglow” gently traces the anxiety hangover and the fragile light that follows, while “Ratbag Joy” closes in euphoric denial, as a bouncy, irresistible club rush where “your dreams are lost in a lot of white dust.”
By the end, Psychedelika Pt. 1 comes as a full-blown trip, available on Spotify.
