Boston-based singer-songwriter Jessye DeSilva steps into a bold new artistic chapter with the announcement of her upcoming album “Glitter Up the Dark”, arriving April 3. Known for blending storytelling with emotionally resonant songwriting, DeSilva continues to expand her creative identity on this third full-length release. Produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan, the album introduces a vibrant sonic palette that bridges rock, pop, and Americana while centering on a powerful theme: the transformative strength of queer and trans joy.
Leading the rollout is the energetic single “Punk Rock Joy,” a synth-driven rocker featuring Butch Walker. The track captures the rebellious spirit of punk culture while celebrating the defiant optimism found within marginalized communities. Pulsing with driving guitars and bright electronic textures, the song channels the attitude of the ‘90s alternative era while maintaining a modern sense of urgency and purpose.
The album’s concept began to take shape in 2023, shortly after DeSilva released her critically praised second album “Renovations”. During that period of reflection and personal growth, she embraced her identity as a trans woman while writing in Tennessee; a moment that deeply informed the emotional and political weight of the new project. What emerged is a collection of songs that explore resilience, memory, and belonging.
“Glitter Up the Dark” also showcases an impressive lineup of collaborators, including AdiaVictoria and LaFemmeBear, each adding unique textures to DeSilva’s evolving sound. Across the record, influences range from ‘90s alternative rock to alt-pop balladry, revealing an artist unafraid to move beyond genre boundaries.
With its blend of introspective songwriting and expansive production, “Glitter Up the Dark” stands as DeSilva’s most fully realized artistic statement yet; an album that transforms personal discovery into a universal message of courage, identity, and joy.
