Pursuit by Voodoo Bloo: Review
Imaginative as their name sounds, Voodoo Bloo delivers a sucker punch called Pursuit, extracted from the sophomore album The Blessed Ghost. Using metaphors and an imaginative figure to subvert in their songwriting, Voodoo Bloo garnered quite a publicity, and their single proves that they are definitely worth the hype. Lyrically, the track talks about a daily, perpetual struggle that literally everyone has to put up with self-doubt, their own demons, and the moment of emancipation that motivates it all. Voodoo Bloo encapsulates all the stages of struggle in the most imaginative way possible. The song itself is a cocktail of genres ranging from Indie-Rock bangers to hard-hitting Alt-Rock along with a touch of Grunge for good measure, The Blessed Ghost showcases the band’s versatility as they develop their sound.
Quotable lyrics:
“I’m scared to sleep again
Haven’t had this in years
Not since I started Ritalin
A sober day
Is just no fun
At least I’ll know,
What these thoughts are for,
And I need a break from change,
A choice that’s over.”
A dark, grim look of insomnia, and depression but with a hopeful undertone of breaking the chain, Voodoo Bloo continues to intrigue their listeners. The riffs and the vocals may remind some of Arctic Monkeys and Bring Me The Horizon. Now those are two names I never thought I would ever say in the same sentence but here we are!
The Blessed Ghost by Voodoo Bloo is now streaming on Spotify.
