Adam Staple, the Newfoundland-based indie rock polymath, makes a triumphant return with his second solo EP, titled “Quiet Part Loud.” Following up on the success of his previous EP, “SuperAntiHero,” this new release delves even deeper into his personal journey, fearlessly shedding light on his struggles with panic disorder, agoraphobia, and depression, bravely revealing battles that are often hidden behind closed doors.
The title track, “Quiet Part Loud,” sets the tone with uptempo guitar-driven indie rock in an unusual 7/4 time signature. Next up is “Vegas Moment,” a mid-tempo slow-burner that masterfully builds anticipation with the inclusion of captivating synths, ultimately culminating in a cathartic climax. Kelly-Ann Evans lends her powerful vocals to the mix, taking the track a notch higher.
In a bold and imaginative move, Adam transforms an iconic Blondie classic in the track “Rapture.” Slowing it down and blending it with fiddle and mandolin reels, he creates an ethereal amalgamation of genres, breathing new life into the familiar tune.
“Michael Myers” takes a different sonic route, infusing the EP with a straight-up power-pop blast. Drawing inspiration from John Carpenter’s classic theme, Staple takes a creative approach, portraying mental illness as a franchise boogeyman.
Through this musical endeavor, Staple courageously breaks free from the internalized stigma surrounding mental health, inviting listeners into a realm of introspection and emotional catharsis. “Quiet Part Loud” takes on a whole new meaning as it becomes a beacon of empowerment, inspiring us to own our battles, no matter how unconventional or vulnerable they may be.
