Radio by The Lowtones: Review
The Lowtones release a smashing song named โRadio,โ and it becomes an instant hit. Like their earlier works, this one is greatly influenced by post-punk music. However, there are hints of other musical styles, such as new wave, indie rock, and alternative, hidden throughout. Bands that can successfully combine these three components without diluting the core musical direction or sacrificing cohesion are very uncommon in todayโs music scene. As mentioned earlier, and โRadioโ proves it: The Lowtones are masters at fusing the best elements of various genres.
โRadioโ also has an updated, polished sound that conforms to the standards of modern music production. All of the appealing themes, melodies, harmonies, basslines, and rhythms are there for your perusal. Divine sound quality throughout, with no loss of fidelity at lower volume levels. The bass guitar adds even more strength to this mix with all of its expertly built low-end tones, and I love how the reverb-leading theme works with all of the chord progressions and riffs. Nothing would have such a peppy vibe without a masterful drum performance, complete with well-accented rhythmic sequences and drum fills.
This hard-hitting track, recorded at Norfolkโs Brass Monkey Studio, is worthy of constant listening. One thing that is intriguing about โRadioโ is how the hazy melody perfectly complements the songโs somber message. Because itโs about fighting off negative, self-critical thoughts, and a losing battle, this song is sorrowful and desperate while being bold and brash. The perfect start to the new year.
