ReWorks Vol. 1 by Neil C. Young is a captivating 4-track EP that breathes new life into familiar tunes, offering a fresh perspective on each composition. The instrumental jazz and fusion music is expertly crafted by Neil C. Young on guitar, Ben Gonzalez on drum kit, and Alan Whitham on bass guitar.
“Issues,” the opening track, grooves with a delightful interplay of guitar melodies, sparkling cymbals, and rhythmic drum taps. The composition emphasizes how true love can linger despite its day-to-day challenges. The warm and comforting melody captures the emotional depth of the subject matter.
2nd track, “Video Games” takes a darker turn with the reference to an abusive relationship. The track tries to seep in positivity but it falls futile with the overarching darkness and frustration. The next track “Tijuana Lady” reminds you of your unrequited love as the music journeys through with its strings lying loose in the middle of the road.
Closing ReWorks Vol. 1 is “Sunday Morning,” a feel-good track that exudes positive vibes reminiscent of the aftermath of a great day or night. The orchestral progression, rhythmic drum taps, and playful guitar melodies contribute to the celebratory atmosphere. The sax riff from the original enhances the overall experience. The EP was Recorded in a studio in Colne, Lancashire. Young produced the song and Ben Gonzalez contributed as the engineer/drummer.
The EP is only the first installment of a four-part ‘ReWorks’ series. The trio transforms the original versions and changes the entire mood and feelings with arrangements. It’s something totally new and worth it! So stay tuned for new releases coming soon.
