Shaun Lewis has delivered a powerful and energetic EP with SL EP 2 released this Aug 23. Completely self-produced in Crash Studios, Liverpool, the EP was supported by his band consisting of Ben Friel. Stephen Kirwan, Gaz Rowlands, (The Real Kicks), Craig McMahon, Lee Barry and Bobby Anglesey (Motives).
SL EP 2 opens with “Holding Up The World,” a high-energy track that immediately grabs your attention. The song has shredding driving guitars followed by trampling drums and energetic and animated vocals of Lewis. His electrifying vitriol is all the validation he needs to keep going.
Coming up, “Dillinger,” named after a bank robber, forces you with a hard confront of sharp shrill noise—perhaps a war cry by modern standards. This leads to a gritty grind of the guitars alongside a head-nodding beat.
“She Was On The Stairs” is an engaging track that opens with a fuzzy header before we are transitioned to drums rhythmically beating. This is soon followed by guitars grinding catchily until a drum roll introduces and throws down the entire party. A perfect intro to an engaging song about betrayal and disappointment.
The EP concludes with the 2024 acoustic demo of “Girl,” inspired by the Beatles. The song is a change of weather as it carries on with acoustic guitar strumming clearly and a much softer vocal performance.
With SL EP 2 finally out, Shaun Lewis is coming up with SL EP 3 very soon this Sept.
