Maevey’s latest single, “So Glad,” featuring MT Jones, is a glowing affirmation of love wrapped in a luscious swirl of rhythm, soul, and vintage charm. Released via the increasingly acclaimed Baltic Jazz Recordings, the track is a nod to classic jazz and soul and a strikingly modern reinterpretation.
From the first breathy “Ooo” that drifts through the speakers, Maevey captures you in a world of soft romance and sincere joy. The song’s production is a transatlantic affair, with the main session held in Liverpool at producer Steve Levine’s studio, while the horns were added in Chicago by Paul Von Mertens. That global collaboration adds a textured depth, rich horns meet silky vocals, layered atop the sweet shuffle of 6/8 drums and subtle congas by Vidar Norheim. Maevey’s voice floats effortlessly, high and sensual. As the chorus blooms, her voice becomes more euphoric, supported by glowing harmonies and a rhythm that feels like a late-summer breeze.
MT Jones lays down a gorgeous bed of chords, and his backing vocals bring warmth and tenderness to the track, while Levine’s production sensibility shines through in the organic, unforced feel of the final mix. What began as a simple hummed idea in the studio evolved into a track that knows exactly what it is—a love song, pure and true. The bridge in particular is a highlight: Maevey’s voice soars with power and gratitude, revealing its full range, rich tone, and emotional depth.
“So Glad” is a perfect embodiment of Baltic Jazz Recordings’ mission to take timeless influences and infuse them with a distinct, contemporary glow. It makes you so glad for existing.
