If you are tired of generic music, Carley Varleyโs new single โSomehow I am Alive,โ may be a refreshing change after a while. Carley has amalgamated alternative pop with rock seamlessly where appropriate. She makes it seem as though there could have been no better way to sing this song.
โSomehow I am Aliveโ emphasizes the struggle that is having Anxiety brings. She opens the song with different synth waves before halting it with a wave from the other direction and starting the music with the rhetoric: โHow am I still going? I donโt know how I am.โ This might be an everyday feeling for anxiety sufferers, a large part of the population.
People of all ages can come together to enjoy the musical reference to Linkin Park, the unorthodox alternations between alternative pop in the pre-chorus and the bridge, and the heavy rock sound in the chorus. Other than her soft, resonant voice, the lyrics are in a league of their own with poetic metaphors like, โOh, I have built my temple far too high/ When it crumbles, I am still trapped inside.โ
Carley moves from the peaceful synth-pop pre-chorus to combine the gritty grunge guitar sounds with thrumming drums in the chorus to give us a hint of how it feels inside. It might seem too sudden, but that, I believe, is the perfect demonstration of how sudden anxiety attacks can be.
The instrumentation is in perfect harmony with the depth of her lyrics. The amount of emotion that Carley Varley has invested in this song makes โSomehow I am Aliveโ so worthwhile.
